Shakira is a multi-time Grammy winning artist who started releasing Latin music before beginning to release music also focused on the American market, while still sticking to her Colombian roots. This made her a massive success in both Spanish and English-speaking markets. Shakira, whose full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, was born on February 2, 1977 in Barranquilla, Columbia. After getting her first record deal when she was just 13 years old, she released her first two albums, 鈥淢agia鈥� in 1991 and 鈥淧eligro鈥� in 1993. After that, she starred in the Latin soap opera 鈥淓l Oasis鈥� before she started to focus on music once again.
In 1995, she released her album 鈥淧ies Descalzos鈥� and then released 鈥溌緿贸nde Est谩n los Ladrones?鈥� in 1988 before she started to focus more on the American market.
In 2000, she won her first Grammy award for best Latin Pop album for 鈥淢TV Unplugged.鈥� In 2001, she released another album, 鈥淟aundry Service,鈥� which was her first English language album.
In 2005, Shakira put out 鈥淔ijaci贸n Oral, Vol. 1鈥� and also put out 鈥淥ral Fixation, Vol, 2鈥� that same year. This album contained the popular song 鈥淗ips Don鈥檛 Lie.鈥� In 2009, she put out 鈥淪he Wolf.鈥� This was also around the time that the hit song 鈥淲aka Waka鈥� was released. In 2014, Shakira released a self-titled album followed by 鈥淓l Dorado鈥� in 2017.
In addition to releasing her own music, Shakira also helped aspiring artists as a coach on 鈥淭he Voice鈥� in 2013 for the show鈥檚 fourth season. She also performed at the Super Bowl Halftime show in 2020 with JLo.
Shakira started dating Piqu茅 after they met in 2010 on the set of her 鈥淲aka Waka鈥� music video. Piqu茅, who played professional Spanish football for FC Barcelona and Shakira confirmed their relationship in 2011.
In January 2013, their first child, Milan Piqu茅 Mebarak was born. Their second child, Sasha Piqu茅 Mebarak was born in January 2015. Both children were born in Barcelona. In 2018, Pique retired from soccer and in June 2022, the two announced that they had separated.
